Required Documentation

Registering to teach in London

Registering to teach in London

The following documentation is required for all teachers to work in London, and as such, when you register to work with DJM Personnel, you can forward or hand them to us. If we are unable to sight the originals, certified copies of the originals are accepted.

1. PASSPORT and VISA

We will need to see your passport as proof of your identity and that you are eligible to work in the UK. You can enter the country on the following visas: UK/European passport; UK Ancestry visa; Tier 5 (Youth Mobility Scheme for 30 years of age ad under); Highly Skilled Migrant Visa. For the most up to date information please see: www.homeoffice.gov.uk

2. TEACHING QUALIFICATIONS

DJM will need to see your Teaching Qualifications. A certified copy of your degree(s), your academic transcript, (results for final year) and current teacher registration certificate/card.

3. CURRENT CV/Resume

Your CV should be up to date and list briefly your personal details, education qualifications, teaching experiences, special skills and contact details of your teaching referees.

4. REFERENCES

You need two professional references or names of two referees who can verify your teaching experience in a school. These references should be from your most recent teaching experience or teaching position and referees must write about your current ability as a teacher.

5. POLICE CHECK

UK law requires that all adults working with children in the UK be checked for criminal convictions. The Police Check should certify that you do not have any criminal convictions, pending convictions or child related offences in your own country. It should not be more than 6 months old.

6. MEDICAL CLEARANCE

You should have a medical certificate from your local doctor that stipulates that you are fit to work.

Interview

Before any teacher works with DJM, each will have an interview or induction meeting with our Managing Consultant, Bronwyn Ward Manson.

Although the interviews are informal and friendly (we provide you with cappuccinos or hot chocolates), there is an important practical side.

You will need all documentation to be presented at the interview, and Bronwyn will discuss with you how often and in what way you want to work and what type of work you are interested in.

The prime purpose of the interview is to analyse each your skills, abilities and experiences in order to assess your personal capabilities in order for us to know how to best support you to deal with, and grow from, the teaching situations in London. At the same time, this begins to build the partnership between you and DJM.

With the information you give to Bronwyn, she will assess which type of teaching position and school would be best suited to you.

There will also be an opportunity to set up a bank account, obtain a National Insurance number, and an Enhanced Disclosure CRB police check. DJM Personnel pays for the UK CRB police check for teachers who work with us.

START TEACHING

When you start teaching with DJM it's really just the beginning of belonging to a great team! We will support you the WHOLE time you work with us, offering support, advice, training & development, and resources to help you in your teaching and social networks with organised activities.

Work Permit Sponsorship

The rules have changed in England regarding the provision of work permit related work. The changes to the provision of a work permit make it very hard for a school to want to employ a teacher who requires a work permit and who then also must obtain the QTS qualification in order to get the Work Permit to work in the UK. Apart from the cost of approx £1000, the school needs to also guarantee that the teacher requiring a work permit will also be eligible to do QTS the Qualified Teacher Status Qualification.
