Introduction by Bron:
“Through my work developing classroom assessment and reporting frameworks for the AWRITE project—and subsequently training educators on their implementation—I have come to champion a foundational principle: assessment must drive learning, not interrupt it.
Assessment should be a seamless, daily practice integrated naturally into teaching rather than treated as extra work. By embedding evaluation into authentic, real-world tasks, we can measure genuine student achievement through critical thinking and application. This gives teachers the immediate data they need to drive daily teaching actions suited to the needs of the students in their class. In my newest publication, “The Reading Program: Transforming the Ordinary into the Extraordinary,” I share how to embed student assessment and record-keeping directly into daily routines. These authentic assessment practices focus on how students apply critical thinking to real-world challenges—moving far beyond standard fact-recall tests to measure true understanding.
